Sick Days with Mom

Hey, ya'll. It's me, Sara Kate! I thought I'd tell you what I've been up to this week. Yesterday I got sent home from school for something called hand, foot, and mouth disease. Sounds bad, right? Apparently me and most of my friends in my class shared it because we all got sent home. Mom took me to the doctor (where I saw 2 of my friends from school) after she picked me up. We had to wait forever in the waiting room because once we checked in, they forgot to tell the doctor we were there. Mom said she was a little annoyed. Oh well. I was kept me occupied by reading some books...I'm really diggin' those things these days. The doctor saw me and confirmed that I had hand, foot, and mouth, but he said I wasn't contagious anymore. The people at school said I had to stay home for a couple days but the doctor said I could go back...mom was really confused about what to do! She said didn't want to be 'that parent' who took her sick kid to school so she kept me home today. You can kind of see my rash around my mouth in this picture, and I also have a couple bumps on my hand. My bottom is pretty rash-y, too, but I won't show you a picture of that. What?!? You say I'm sick? I don't feel sick!
I've had a ball today at home with mom! I woke up around 7 and me and mom played blocks. Then we had breakfast. She shared her poptart with me. She even gave me some of the iced part...that iced brown sugar and cinnamon part was yummy! I guess that's what happen when you're sick, you get spoiled! :-) Don't worry though, I had some healthy banana to go with my unhealthy poptart!
Anyway, after breakfast, I practiced my walking skills. I'm getting pretty good at that. I even turned my toy around when I hit a corner and I pushed it and walked with one hand!
After walking practice, I chased the cat for a while. That's fun! One of these days I'll catch her. I also loved on my doggy, Cora. She is very sweet and lets me tug and walk all over her. Then mom and I played blocks again...that's super fun! We did that for a long time. I like to take the blocks out of the bag and put them back in. She teased me by turning on the TV...I thought she was going to turn on my Baby Einstein show, but instead she got caught up on something called 'American Idol.' I don't know what that is, but the music was sometimes interesting and I danced and bounced a little. I got pretty tired after that and took a nap. It wasn't super long but it was long enough for mom to get a shower. Wasn't that nice of me? :-) After my nap, I played in my room a bit.
I played a game of pull all my dirty clothes out of the hamper and put them back...that's a fun one! It looks like mom needs to do my laundry, doesn't it?! :-)
After I played a little more, I found out I was going to meet my new friend Landry for the first time! We are 1 year and 3 days apart and my mom and her mom said we're gonna be really good friends. I decided I better brush my hair for the special occasion.
I sat in my mom's lap while Landry had a bottle and while my mom and Mrs. Brandy talked. I got a little jealous when mom held the baby but I got over it when I got some Cheerio's. Mom got the baby to fall asleep for a bit so Mrs. Brandy made me a cheese sandwich and cut up part of a banana for me. Yum! At one point I shared my changing table with Landry. She has awesome hair. Maybe one day she can teach me how to grow some!
I said good-bye to my new friend and mom and I played a little more in my room. We read some books and then I started acting silly!
I had another nap (which was quite long and surprised mom!), and then since it was nice outside mom decided to take me on a walk. It was nice, although it was really muggy outside! She said we had to get our walk in now because some really gnarly weather is supposed to roll in later. By gnarly, I mean BAD! Mom said the hat she bought me is a little too big, but I still looked cute! She said I'll grow into it!
Eventually daddy got home and I hung out with him.
We ate some dinner and I did my normal evening activities...really much of the same stuff I did all day today, minus the hangin' with Landry part. Overall I had a fun day home with mom today. I think dad is going to stay home with me tomorrow and then I may get to go back to school on Thursday. I have to get better so I can see Poppa on Friday and my cousins, Hannah and Hayden, during the weekend. Hope everyone is having a good week!

One Step at a Time

As of this weekend, Sara Kate has a new trick. No, not the BIG trick but she's getting there!

It was a muggy but decent evening out tonight so we spent some time in the driveway hanging out. Chris showed Sara Kate his serious basketball skills...hehe! :-) And she loved rolling the ball back and forth with daddy!
As bad as Sara Kate has felt all weekend with the teething (The right canine tooth has broken the skin!! But the other 3 are still just on the edge.), she was in a really good mood tonight and it was a great opportunity to get some pictures of her. She does like being outside, though.
She started holding her hands out to the side and making this face like, what are you talking about?!? Seriously, she cracks me up.
Drool anyone? She's making enough these days to fill a pool! This was her second onesie today because she soaked the first one earlier.
And after sitting outside tonight in the humidity, it looks like she's got my hair, which frizzes and curls up in humidity...poor kid! Fortunately we aren't in south Arkansas (as far as humid weather goes) but we do have enough to send my hair into fits.
Hope everyone had an enjoyable weekend! Bye-bye!

Faces of Sara Kate

Last night we braved the crazy weather (yes, more rain...really hard rain!) and went to Chris' new favorite place for dinner, Cafe Delta Soul, for some yummy catfish. Sara Kate was being SUCH a ham and was just cracking me up with her 'posing' for the camera. The camera would make the red light and focus on her and she would stop what she was doing and make these faces. Chris tried to video it but then she stopped. Of course. She's so silly sometimes!
Then she was wanting to look at the pictures on the camera display and she would giggle.
This isn't a goofy picture but check out those beautiful long eye lashes!!
And this really isn't a good picture (it was a goofy face she was making), but look closely at her mouth...does it look like you can see 2 teeth? The right front and the one beside it?? I can't tell. She will not let you put your finger in her mouth so I haven't been able to tell if those 2 have broken the skin or are just thisclose. We can actually see all 4 tops coming in but the left 2 definitely haven't broken the skin and obviously, the right 2 are in question.
Anyway, Sara Kate was doing the same thing cheesing for the camera (well, my cell phone) the other night when we were sitting in the driveway after going for a walk. She would 'cheese' and then want to look at the picture and would giggle. Pictures are a little blurry because she moves non-stop but you get the point with her and her silly faces!

Dinner

What did Sara Kate have for dinner tonight?
Did she want the carrots I had just made her? NO!
Did she want some of the pork tenderloin we had? NO!

She only wanted watermelon.
Which yesterday she wanted nothing to do with. And the day before that she wanted. And Friday she didn't want anything to do with. But tonight she loved it and couldn't get enough.
That is until she had some corn on the cob...
Then all she wanted was that!
So if she ever acts like she doesn't like watermelon or corn on the cob, she's lying!! And I now have photographic proof that she's a BIG fan of both! :-) And yes, I realize that it looks like she's bleeding from the neck but don't worry, it's just watermelon! :-) And now she desperately needs a bath so night-night everyone!

Wedding Weekend

This weekend we traveled to Memphis for my brother's wedding. We left Friday morning and got back a little bit ago. This was Sara Kate's 2nd long car ride in her life, her 1st trip out of state, and her 1st time to stay in a hotel! She did so great all weekend. On the way over to Memphis, she slept between Fayetteville and Conway for a while, and then we made a lunch stop in Conway where she made friends with some older people who asked if we could leave her with them. I told them she was on her way to be a flower girl in a wedding and the family might be upset if we didn't show up without her! After lunch she wasn't crazy about going back in her car seat, plus she was getting tired again. I borrowed a portable DVD player and brought a couple Baby Einstein movies but the movies were in the trunk. Smart parents. So I held Chris' phone, which had a Baby Einstein video on it, and she watched it for a bit and dozed off right outside of Memphis.

Between Little Rock and Memphis I had my camera ready to capture some pictures of the flooding. It was really crazy. Here are a few...

These people obviously had their homes flooded because they had their campers set up on this flooded exit and they had their little boats tied up here too. And here's the Mighty Mississippi. Welcome to Tennessee! Here's what Sara Kate thought about visiting a new state for the first time...ha! As you can see, she got in a little cat nap right as we were getting into Memphis. Good thing because we were up for a while and busy the rest of the day. We headed to the hotel with enough time to change clothes and head to the rehearsal. The rehearsal was short because there was some kind of kids graduation there that night. Chris was playing most of the music and he was able to get some practice time with the trumpet player in before we headed to the dinner. While they did that, Sara Kate had a ball climbing the stairs...over and over and over and over again... Dinner was at Corky's BBQ and it was really nice, and really good! My college roomie lives in Memphis and helped my mom come up with a location. She came to dinner and as always, it was great to spend time with her. A cute picture of Holly and Phillip at dinner. We headed back to the hotel afterwards and let Gran and Pop play with their grand daughter for a bit before turning in. I thought to call and ask the hotel if they had cribs available for babies, and they did so that was one less thing we had to bring (the pack n play). The 'crib' was a little pack n play so it worked out perfectly. Sara Kate slept great her first time in a hotel. I tried to take a picture of her but the ones I took came out too dark. Oh well. Point being, she slept great!

Wedding day started out with showers, getting ready, breakfast, etc. Bath time was in the sink because there was no tub but she loved it!
We were at the church at the appointed time and hung out while the rest of the bridal party got ready. I managed to get Sara Kate to take a little nap during our wait (thankfully!!!). We did a few pictures before hand and then it was ceremony time. Sara Kate was the flower girl and I was Holly's matron of honor. Matron seems so 'old.' Ha! The dress Sara Kate wore was made for Hannah (by Chris' mom) when she was in her other aunt's wedding at 15 months old, and Sharon and one of her teacher friends came up with the tutu idea. It turned out adorable, and we got so many compliments. We didn't get a ton of pictures because she was getting a little cranky afterwards but here's a few. This first picture and the video are from when she was trying it on last week.
Here is Sara Kate with her 'babysitters' during the wedding. I walked in carrying her and she tossed a couple petals, then I handed her off to my aunt and uncle, and I picked her up on the way back out. She did great, despite the Cheerio EXPLOSION!! Should have gotten a picture of that! But hey, it kept her quiet. Thanks again, Tim! The wedding was fine and went off without a hitch. After the wedding they did pictures. I tried to snap a few as the photographer snapped but most of mine came out blurry for some reason. Oh well. I just have a couple decent ones.
Our family in attendance. Got to spend more time with Vanessa, which was super great. Love that we were able to spend so much time with her this weekend, on Friday night and Saturday afternoon!
Reception time. The new Mr. and Mrs. Then it was time to drive off into the sunset. They left today for a cruise to the Caribbean...sounds lovely!

Last night we spent some time with my family and had a nice dinner and hung out in my grandmother's room. Sara Kate played hard and almost stood up all by herself, holding onto nothing. Then she realized what she was doing and fell over. It'll be very soon.
We headed home this morning after a breakfast at Cracker Barrel and then headed out. Sara Kate slept most of the way between Memphis and Little Rock and then she watched some Baby Einstein between Russellville and Fayetteville...along with making a Cheerio mess in her car seat. Anybody see a trend here? :-) We had a great weekend and it was nice to get away, even though it was a little hectic. Best wishes to the newlyweds. We love ya'll!
